About Renee Olstead
Multitalented artist Renee Olstead leads an accomplished career as an actress and entertainer. Currently a star on ABC Family’s popular television series The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Renee Olstead first began acting at an early age before eventually appearing alongside Hollywood icons like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Russell Crowe, and Jennifer Garner.
Raised in a creative household and strongly supported by her parents, Renee Olstead began acting in local musicals in the Kingwood, Texas, area, when she was young. At the age of six, she appeared in one of her first television performances, a made-for-TV movie called Deadly Family Secrets. Following her breakout performance, Renee Olstead quickly graduated to blockbuster movies, playing small roles in End of Days alongside Schwarzenegger, The Insider with Crowe and Al Pacino, and Space Cowboys with Clint Eastwood and Tommy Lee Jones.
Admired by her colleagues for her vibrant energy and her appeal to viewers of all ages, Renee Olstead signed on with the CBS comedy Still Standing in 2002, on which she played Lauren Miller, an often-overlooked middle child in a Chicago working class family. Her performances on the hit sitcom earned her numerous awards over the years, including a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series (Comedy) – Supporting Young Actress in 2002.
Outside of acting, Renee Olstead devotes much of her attention to her music. In 2005, Renee Olstead’s song “Summertime,” off her self-titled, debut CD, earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist. Performing pop and jazz selections, Renee Olstead continues to release albums, one of her most recent of which was Skylark (2009), produced by successful record producer and composer David Foster.
An international performer, Renee Olstead performed in Berlin, Germany, at the 2005 Live 8 concert and received an International Jazz Talent Award for her presentation at the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival in 2008.
