About Raymond Davis
Raymond Davis sat at his very first poker table when he was only eight years old. Although Raymond Davis was born in Fondulac, Wisconsin, he was raised in Milwaukee in the early years of his life. Davis decided to serve his country and joined the United States Army after turning eighteen. Four years later, he was discharged from Fort Lewis, Washington, and for a while, Davis lived in Seattle before moving to Los Angeles in 2000.
During his time in the army, Davis would always play poker with his friends, especially during his off-hours. Soon after he was discharged, Davis decided to raise the stakes and entered tournaments in Seattle in the early 1990’s. Although successful, Davis was not quite satisfied and yearned for even more competition. This desire spurred him to relocate to the greater area of Los Angeles.
Raymond Davis learnt a great deal from players like Paul Darden, Phil Ivey and Ray Bonetti, his mentor. Bonetti taught Davis the tricks of the trade and also taught him the basics of Hold’em. One of Davis' most well known strategies is to get under his opponents’ skin in order to shake them up. This way, he always knows that an unstable player is more likely to make mistakes. This strategy, however, also gave a Davis negative image for being a little outspoken. Davis defends his strategy, saying, “It's just who I am. But it's really just done in a fun, good natured way. Everybody knows I'm not a bad person. I'm one of the nicest people out here.”
In February 2008, Raymond Davis won $177,600 at the World Series Of Poker H.O.R.S.E World Championship, finishing in 10th place. Davis also finished 7th in the WPT Bellagio World Diamond Poker Classic bagging $173,445 in the No Limit Hold’em Championship Event.
