About Ray Bandlow
During a career spanning more than 20 years, Dr. Ray Bandlow, 59, has strived to bridge the achievement gap that divides disadvantaged children from their more fortunate peers. Beginning with his first position, directing a program that supplied tutoring to more than 1,500 impoverished migrant children, Dr. Ray Bandlow worked to create an optimal environment for learning. Later in his career, he revitalized Hillside Public Schools, lowering violence and vandalism rates by close to 60 percent, while concurrently creating a richer academic experience. Under his direction, the Hillside, New Jersey-based district increased enrollment in Advanced Placement courses and boosted student math proficiency. In addition, Dr. Ray Bandlow expanded learning opportunities in the performing arts, engineering, pre-medicine, and multimedia disciplines. By leveraging corporate partnerships and winning grant funding, he also raised well over $10 million in cash contributions and services for the district.
In 2007, Dr. Ray Bandlow joined Fort Lee Public Schools in Fort Lee, New Jersey. As Superintendent of Schools, he attained similar positive outcomes for students, increasing the number of those who mastered language arts and math. Dr. Bandlow also improved teachers’ effectiveness by implementing a District Instructional Model, which incorporated professional development and supervisory technology. In 2011, he turned his talents to a new endeavor as Superintendent of Schools of Beacon City School District, which is located on the Hudson River in New York state.
As a result of Dr. Ray Bandlow’s longtime commitment to his students, many of the educational institutions he has led have garnered recognition locally and nationally. Ranked by Newsweek in the top six percent of schools nationwide, Fort Lee High School also was named the seventh best high school in its demographic in New Jersey by Inside New Jersey Magazine. Many of Dr. Bandlow’s other schools have experienced similar recognition, winning honors from organizations like the U.S. Department of Education, New Jersey School Boards Association, and the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce.
