Ramesh Powar is a professional cricketer, who was born on May 20, 1978 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He is a right-arm off break bowler and is also a handy batsman down the order.
On May 18, 2007, Ramesh Powar made his Test debut for the Indian side in a match against Bangladesh at Chittagong. In this game, he took his first Test wicket of the Bangladeshi batsman, Rajin Saleh and followed it up by taking two more wickets. A few days later, Ramesh Powar played his second test against Bangladesh and continued his good form by taking another three-wicket haul and finished with his personal best figure of 3/33.
Ramesh Powar made his One Day International (ODI) debut in a match against Pakistan at Rawalpindi on March 16, 2004. Since his debut, he has played a total of 31 ODIs and has taken 34 wickets with a career best figure of 3/24.
During the 1999-00 season, Ramesh Powar made his First-class debut and was instrumental in Mumbai’s victorious 2002-03 campaign. He played a crucial role in his side’s victory by taking 20 wickets and finished as the second highest run-scorer by hitting 418 runs at an average of 46. In the 2005-06 season, he once again finished on high by claiming 63 wickets for his side in that season. As of 2008, Ramesh Powar has taken a total of 311 wickets from 90 First-class games at an average of 28.28 with an economy rate of 2.83. He has a career best bowling figure of 7/44 and has taken 17 five-wicket hauls and 2 ten-wicket hauls. He has also proved to be handy with the bat by scoring 2991 runs including 5 centuries and 17 half-centuries with a career best of 131.
In 2008, Ramesh Powar signed with the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kings XI Punjab on a contract worth $ 170,000. He made an impressive debut for this side by claiming his first IPL wicket in his very first over in a match against Delhi Daredevils and took the prize wicket of Gautam Gambhir, who was one of the leading run-scorer in the tournament. He was a member of the side that finished as runners-up in this tournament. During the first season of the IPL, Ramesh Powar played a total of 5 games and has taken 3 wickets with a personal best figure of 2/22 against Delhi Daredevils on May 17, 2008.
