About Me

Since earning a BS and an MS in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, Ralph Nelson has had a long and successful career with IBM. In his first role, as an IBM systems engineer, Ralph Nelson developed applications and integrated custom hardware and software for sonar systems in U.S. Navy submarines.

He joined the company’s Global Business Services consulting branch and rose to vice president and delivery leader for North America. Prior to this role, he led delivery for Application Services in North & South America with responsibility for revenue achievement and client satisfaction across a $3 billion portfolio. He effectively integrated a strategic acquisition, and led a strategic initiative to accelerate and automate global application development processes.

Nelson currently serves as the vice president and chief operating officer for Transformations in IBM’s Watson Group, which was created to scale up IBM's cognitive computing technologies business. As the operations leader, he drives operational efficiencies, consults with clients on key implementations, and helps lead the go-to-market approach for Watson solutions.
