Born in India, where he earned a Bachelor of Science from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in New Delhi, Rakesh Sood came to the United States to earn a Master of Science from the State University of New York and and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Since embarking on his career, Rakesh Sood has spent much of his professional life in Silicon Valley. Soon after receiving his Master’s from the University of Pennsylvania, Rakesh Sood accepted positions with Intel Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, and AT&T in Silicon Valley. While with these companies, Rakesh Sood developed his expertise in sales, marketing, and business development. Honored with several awards, Rakesh Sood spoke at a number of conferences about the state of the industry. Rakesh Sood next transitioned into a career as a research analyst, remaining in the San Francisco Bay Area and accepting a position with Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management LLC. Encouraging investment in technological firms and Internet start-ups during the first years of the Internet explosion, Rakesh Sood represented one of the pioneers to recognize the nascent industry's potential. Most recently, Rakesh Sood entered the venture capital industry with Palo Alto-based companies Reed Elsevier Ventures and Sprout Group. Continuing to invest in wireless, Internet, and technology companies, Rakesh Sood now acts as a Venture Advisor with DOCOMO Capital, helping promote young businesses by providing them with capital to grow. Skilled at spotting talented start-ups, Rakesh Sood regularly sees returns on his investments, and industry leaders such as IBM, Akami, and Broadcom have acquired several of the start-up companies he has supported. Involved in the local business community, Rakesh Sood participates in organizations such as SDForum and Telecom Council of Silicon Valley. A charter member of TiE, Rakesh Sood offers guidance to new entrepreneurs.
