RaKerry Rahman - Professional Summary:

An eminent orthopedic surgeon, RaKerry Rahman, MD, serves the southern Illinois community as a physician and surgeon, as well as a researcher expanding medical knowledge. Dr. Rahman’s interest in research was sparked even before he entered medical school in 2000. While an undergraduate studying chemistry at Florida A&M University, he spent two summers as a research intern for Pfizer, Inc., studying organic synthesis and drug metabolism in Groton, Connecticut. As a medical student at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, RaKerry Rahman, MD, was named an Honor Research Fellow and a Bristol-Myers Squibb Academic Medicine Fellow, and he participated in research into Interleukin-1 under the mentorship of noted orthopedic oncologist Regis O'Keefe. In addition, Dr. RaKerry Rahman’s own research won first place twice in the Dr. Wilbert C. Jordan Research Forum.

As a resident in orthopedic surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the teaching hospital for the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Weill Cornell College of Medicine, RaKerry Rahman, MD, participated in orthopedic research under the mentorship of another leading orthopedic surgeon and sports orthopedist. At the same time, he undertook a number of research projects of his own, in some cases as a co-author and in others as first author. Dr. Rahman was named Chief Resident during the final year of his residency at NewYork-Presbyterian.

In 2010, RaKerry Rahman, MD, departed from NewYork-Presbyterian to accept a Spine Surgery Fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed spine deformity training under Keith Bridwell, MD, and Lawrence Lenke, MD, and learned specialized cervical spine techniques under the tutelage of Dan Riew, MD. When the fellowship ended in 2011, he joined the School of Medicine at Southern Illinois University, assuming the posts of Assistant Professor of Spinal Surgery and Chief of the Adult Spinal Deformity Service.

Dr. RaKerry Rahman’s research continues at a steady pace.
