Rajamannan MD - Professional Summary:
Over the past decade, cardiologist and researcher Dr. Nalini Rajamannan has received 14 major grants to study issues related to aortic valve calcification and related topics. As a result, Dr. Rajamannan has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers in this period. She also serves as a faculty member at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.
From 2001 to 2002, Dr. Rajamannan served as the Principal Investigator in a study titled “Role of Nitric Oxide in Aortic Valve Calcification,” sponsored by the American Heart Association. During this same time, she also received research grants from the American Society of Echocardiography, the Northwestern Memorial Foundation, and Pfizer. Dr. Rajamannan’s studies included imaging of small animals for aortic valve disease, valvular atherosclerosis, and the mechanisms behind aortic valve calcification.
Some of Dr. Rajamannan’s largest grants have come from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). In 2007, she was awarded a 5-year grant totaling $1,250,000 to study 2 factors involved in aortic valve calcification. Dr. Rajamannan has also applied for similar-sized grants to study bicuspid aortic valve disease and cardiac hypertrophy.
Dr. Rajamannan has served as a journal reviewer for over a dozen medical publications. Some of these include Circulation, Heart, Histopathology, Atherosclerosis, the American Heart Journal, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and the American Journal of Physiology. She also sits on three peer-review study sections, one with the American Heart Association and two with NIH.
Through her research and clinical work, Dr. Rajamannan has maintained memberships with several professional organizations. Currently, she belongs to the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American Bone and Mineral Society, the American Federation of Medical Research, and The Histochemical Society, to name a few. She has also chaired committees within these organizations and currently serves as the Program Co-Chair for the Valvular Heart Disease committee of the American College of Cardiology.
