About Radhanath Swami
Humanitarian Radhanath Swami has devoted much of his life to the spiritual teachings and philanthropic ideology of Hare Krishna. Fulfilling his religious duties to reduce suffering around him, Radhanath Swami offers his support and services to a slew of charitable organizations. Radhanath Swami has aided in the housing of orphans, the founding of a hospital, the feeding of starving students, and the building of sustainable farming communities throughout India.
One of Radhanath Swami’s most influential charitable affiliations is his relationship with MIDDAY MEAL. A program of the Maharashtra government, MIDDAY MEAL feeds students of Indian schools in order to combat the poor attendance resulting from limited access to food resources. By helping to feed students, Radhanath Swami promotes the education of hundreds of thousands of Indian schoolchildren. Radhanath Swami’s donations have contributed to the over 1,000,000 meals a day distributed among Indian educational institutions.
Another of Radhanath Swami’s community service projects is the Lady Northcote Hindu Orphanage. Radhanath Swami assumed leadership of the orphanage in 1987. Home to over 46 boys from disadvantaged backgrounds, the orphanage moved from the city to Govardhan Ecovillage in 2002. Maintenance of the village is yet another interest of Radhanath Swami’s, and his orphaned charges enjoy more spacious surroundings in Govardhan Ecovillage than they did in the city, and they are able to learn about sustainable living alternatives through observance of traditional farming and community housing as well as cottage industries, and livestock management.
A second rural development program Radhanath Swami backs is Venu Madhuri, which endeavors to reach self-sufficiency through the same methods employed in Govardhan Ecovillage. Radhanath Swami’s organization operates within the counsel of Mahatma Gandhi’s charkha movement, delivering basic aid and encouraging cottage industry to empower villages.
Radhanath Swami also engages in community service for Gopal’s Garden School, through which he fosters positive learning environments for children by inspiring them to become societal leaders. Additionally, Radhanath Swami supports associations devoted to providing impoverished communities with medical care, such as Bhaktivedanta Hospital and its Barsana Eye Camps.
