About Radhanath Swami

Originally from Chicago, Radhanath Swami is a prominent American Guru in the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), based on devotional Bhakti yoga. A devotee of the movement throughout much of his adult life, Radhanath Swami travels extensively as a spiritual teacher and lecturer.

At the age of 19, Radhanath Swami voyaged across Europe and Asia, studying several religious traditions including Christianity and Judaism before arriving in India, where he met Krishna devotees in Vrindavan. In India, Radhanath Swami spent several years as a sadhu or wandering monk, learning about the teachings of Krishna.

Radhanath Swami returned to the United States in 1972 and became a devotee of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, founder of the ISKCON movement. Radhanath Swami taught Bhakti yoga in the United States for several years before returning to India. Currently based at the Radha Gopinath Temple in Mumbai, Radhanath Swami continues to travel widely as a lecturer and spiritual teacher.

Additionally, Radhanath Swami has spearheaded a variety of community development initiatives. Radhanath Swami’s ventures include the Bhaktivedanta Hospital on the outskirts of Mumbai, a nonprofit clinical and diagnostic facility founded in 1986. Other initiatives include the ISKCON Food Relief Foundation’s Midday Meal program for disadvantaged school children, and the Barsana Eye Camp, a free cataract surgery program. Radhanath Swami has also led an orphanage and a sustainable ecovillage.

In addition to his lecture appearances and volunteer work, Radhanath Swami has produced a number of videos on the teachings of Bhakti yoga and has been interviewed in documentaries on the ISKCON movement. Radhanath Swami has also written an autobiography titled The Journey Home: Autobiography of an American Swami, which describes his travels and spiritual experiences.
