About Rachid Bouaouzan

Rachid Bouaouzan, born on February 20, 1984, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, is a professional football player from Dutch-Moroccan origin.

Rachid Bouaouzan played for the Moroccan national football team in the preparation matches held at Holland in October 2006. He was also a part of the Dutch Under-21 team, and still eligible to appear for both the national teams.

Rachid Bouaouzan joined his home town Dutch club, Sparta Rotterdam at the age of 10 and moved up in ranks to make his debut as professional footballer during the 2003-04 season. At the end of the 2004-05 season, when his club qualified for the play-offs, Rachid Bouaouzan scored the winning goal against Helmond Sport in the last and final play-off, which earned Sparta a place in the Eredivisie, the highest football league in Netherlands. He has played 71 games during his tenure with Sparta and scored 5 goals. Owing to his pace, footwork and ability to play on either wing, Chris Hutchings, the Wigan Athletic manager showed interest, amongst many others, in signing him. Finally, in August 2007, convinced by fellow Dutch footballers at the club, Mario Melchiot and Denny Landzaat, Rachid Bouaouzan moved to Wigan on a three-year contract for a transfer fee that is speculated to be around £300,000. He has been loaned to the Dutch club, NEC Nijmegen by the Wigan Athletic club.
