About Quinn Do

Quinn Do, an American professional poker player, was born in Vietnam, on October 9, 1975. When he was 11 years old, his family moved to the United States of America and settled in Seattle, Washington. Quinn Do was brought up in Seattle, and he currently resides in El Monte, California.

After graduating from high school, Quinn Do went to the University of Washington, where he decided to pursue a degree in criminology. However, he quit college, two classes short of his degree, and became a restaurant owner. He has two Vietnamese restaurants, one in Seattle and the other in the Metropolitan area of Los Angeles.

It came as no surprise that Quinn Do decided to try his hand at poker for he spent most of his time thinking about making investments and turning them into profits. He began playing poker in Seattle and then moved to Southern California, where he took it up on a regular basis. When he made his entry into the poker arena, Quinn Do mainly focused on cash games in order to increase his bankroll. Inspired by his friends from the poker world, he soon started appearing in tournaments. It wasn’t long before he graduated to larger buy-in tournaments, and this time too it was his friends, John Phan and Liz Lieu, who were behind this decision.

Quinn Do made his entry into the tournament world by competing in Satellite – No-Limit Hold’em at the Mirage Poker Showdown/World Poker Tour (WPT) Event Season 4. On May 21, 2005, he competed in a field of 184 players and took home $10,200 for his eleventh- place finish. The 36th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) was his first WSOP outing, and he managed an appreciable final-table finish in the Shootout - Limit Hold’em event, which earned him $34,460 on June 16, 2005. Two days later, Quinn Do made the entire poker world sit up and take notice of him as he emerged victorious in the $2,500 Limit Hold’em event, which had a prize pool of $857,900. The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino played host to 372 other poker players, and Quinn Do outclassed all his competitors to pocket $265,975, and with it, his first WSOP gold bracelet.

He carried his brilliant form to the Bellagio Cup, where he had to face 96 poker players in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em event on July 18, 2005. Quinn Do brought out an impressive performance that enabled him to finish as the runner-up and walk away with $228,850 from a prize pool of $940,900. He came back to the Bellagio later that year to take part in the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic/WPT Event Season 4. Quinn Do found himself competing against 232 fellow-players in the No-Limit Hold’em event and again proved his mettle by winning the event convincingly. He took away a handsome $266,935 from the $678,030 prize pool for his first-place finish on December 2, 2005.

Quinn Do saw yet another final-table finish in $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em at the Festa al Lago/WPT Event. On October 7, 2006 he finished fourth among 360 players, who contributed to the $523,809 prize pool, and walked away with $29,890. In 2007, he went on to participate in many other events and made close to a hundred thousand dollars in total.

Known as “Mighty Quinn” in the poker world, Quinn Do started his 2008 poker campaign on a high note as he went on to earn the biggest prize money of his career, till date, at the LA Poker Classic/WPT Event Season 6. In the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship, which had a prize pool of $6,384,000 and 664 competitors, Quinn Do fought his way to the final table, which eventually narrowed down to the heads-up clash with the legendary Phil Ivey. At the end of the game, Quinn Do finished as the runner-up and scooped close to a million dollars from the prize pool.

As of 2008, his total tournament winnings exceed $1,900,000 that include 22 cashes, 2 first-place finishes, and a bracelet.
