About Pom Lal Kharel

I am Pom Lal Kharel from Nepal, a landlocked developing country. It is best known as the country of Mount Everest. I was born in countryside in August 22, 1972. I used to study science with full interest since my school life. I can't forget that moment when I, in assistance with my science teacher, made a chemical garden by using a number of chemicals. I was awarded and encouraged for the work. Since then I have great enthusiasm to study science. I passed SLC examination with first division. I, then, passed certificate level with physics, chemistry and mathematics as the majors. I had keen interest to study chemistry, my favorite subject. After certificate level I became familiar with the different topics of chemistry such as electrochemistry, periodic table, oxidation and reduction, organic compounds etc. The theoretical and practical knowledge I got in certificate level stimulated me towards advanced chemistry. It is for that reason that I studied bachelor in science taking chemistry as the major. I came across the advanced study of chromatography, spectroscopy, stereochemistry, a number of organic compounds, reaction mechanism, chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, thermodynamics, Analytical Mathematics, Calculus, Algebra etc. I performed all the experiments of chemistry with full interest. My teachers appreciated my works. My interest on chemistry grew up when my uncle Dr. Bhuwananda Kharel returned from Japan with Ph.D. degree in chemistry. I, then, found chemistry as the most important branch of science. I found the importance of chemistry in all fields such as engineering, pharmaceuticals, industries, agriculture etc. I decided to use chemistry to build up my future career. I applied to Central Department of chemistry for Master’s Degree. I was selected for M. Sc. full scholarship in the Department. I brushed up my theoretical and practical knowledge with time. As a result, I passed the annual examination of M. Sc. first year with good marks. In the final year, I specialized in physical chemistry, which helped to illustrate chemistry in relation to physics and mathematics. I was successful to achieve the research facilities for I had had distinct performance in the first year. I performed dissertation work on Material Science successfully under the supervision of Dr. Jagadeesh Bhattarai, an Associate Professor of Central Department of Chemistry. The topic of the dissertation was "The Corrosion Behavior of Sputter-Deposited W-Cr-(4-15)Ni Alloys in NaCl and NaOH Solutions". It developed on me the skill of analyzing the results and idea of searching, reading and drawing conclusions from different research papers. I had the advanced knowledge on solid state chemistry, quantum mechanics, electrochemistry, kinetics, spectroscopy, coordinated compounds, reaction mechanisms, group theory and so on. I passed M. Sc. with first division in 2004. I addition I had Research Methodology which induced on me the research attitude. During the period I was in the Department, I performed two important works. I discussed with friends and stepped on towards publishing the annual magazine "Spectrum". A number of recent research papers were included in the magazine. Similarly, I worked as a coordinator for conducting Inter-Department Science Exhibition and Competition. I, in association with CHEMSA (Chemistry Students' Association) members, conducted Science Quiz in the Department. After the completion of Master’s degree, I have been working in Nightingale Higher Secondary School as a full time lecturer of chemistry. I taught the students of undergraduate level and developed an excellent way of teaching. I organized Science Exhibition in Nightingale Higher Secondary School and completed it successfully. Hundreds of students from different colleges took part in the competition. I was able to receive 'The Best Subject Teacher Award' from Nightingale Higher Secondary School for my academic and non-academic performance. I worked as a Discipline Incharge in the same college. Now, I am confident that I can deal with the course on all levels in chemistry. I have a strong desire to have Ph.D. degree in chemistry by hook or crook. I want to live with name and fame. I can accomplish any type of research work in physical and analytical chemistry. I am seeking suitable environments where I can strengthen my research activities and get the higher degree that will enhance and upgrade my knowledge on the subject matter. I do hope that your university will grant me an opportunity to show my knowledge and ability. I am confident that I would accomplish my goals by understanding and grasping the intricacy of the subject matter. I will utilize and share this lavish knowledge that I will acquire for the benefit of mankind and its surrounding and will spread as passionately as a gospel. I have no one to help me. I have been studying under economic crisis. I can’t afford the fees and cost of living in USA. I want to apply for TA or RA whichever is possible for me. I am looking forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
