Philippe Treuille - Professional Summary:
Musician and composer Philippe Treuille pursued extensive studies in music composition in preparation for his career. In 2001, Treuille studied composition under Richard Cornell and Aaron Rosenthal at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. From 2001 to 2002, he also attended a pre-college program at The Juilliard School, where he studied composition with Dr. Andrew Thomas.
Philippe Treuille remained at Juilliard the following year, studying composition under Christopher Rouse and completing coursework in music history, music theory, solfège, and piano. He concluded his time there with two recording sessions of six original compositions. Treuille then earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Northwestern University. While attending Northwestern, he composed scores for productions of Imago, Ubu Roi, and Bhavachakra and the student films Exotic Pizzas and Tea Anyone? He also composed theme music for The Lit Show on WNUR radio.
As a freelancer, Treuille has composed numerous works, including a score for the Silvio Liu Fashion Show in 2010, background music for a CD series of guided imageries for psychologist Tian Dayton, and an original score for the artist Derrick Adams' installation Go Stand Next to the Mountain. In 2011, Treuille released his own album of 13 original electronic compositions entitled The Flowers. Currently, he is working on background music for children's DVDs for the company Thotbooks.
Throughout his career, Philippe Treuille has won several awards for music composition, including the Trinity School Music Prize and the NFAA Arts Music/Composition Merit Award. In 2001, he was an ASCAP Foundation Young Composers Award finalist.
Philippe Treuille uses his passion for music to benefit others. In 2004, while attending Northwestern, he participated in Alternative Student Breaks, through which he mentored students at the Stax Music Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. In 2010, he was active in New York Cares, which helps children with autism enjoy yoga and music.
