Philippe Senderos, also known as Philippe Sylvain Senderos, was born on February 14th, 1985 in Geneva, Switzerland and is a Central Football defender who plays for Arsenal of the Premier League. Philippe Senderos’ international background, being born from a Serbian mother and Spanish kept many future possibilities for this rising football talent who proved to be a highly promising defender who was signed by Arsenal in the summer of 2003 for an undisclosed fee. According to national media, many other top clubs were trailing Philippe Senderos, but it was Arsenal who eventually won his signature. Manchester United even invited him to Old Trafford to watch a game, and Liverpool offered him to train with the club. Philippe Senderos chose Switzerland as is country of origin. In 2002, Philippe Senderos captained the Switzerland team to victory in the European Under-17 Championship. During his first season in England, Philippe Senderos sustained a knee injury and didn’t appear until later on in the season. Philippe Senderos made his debut in Manchester City in the Carling Cup later in October 2004. Senderos still has a scar over his left eyebrow, an injury sustained from the 2006 World Cup, as a display of his ongoing tenacity to win. Philippe Senderos sustained the injury when he scored the all important goal against South Korea taking them to victory.

Philippe Senderos has played at all football levels, including the Under-15 and all the way upwards for Switzerland. Senderos took the world’s attention when he captained Switzerland to the UEFA Under-17 Championship in 2002. In the 2007 season, Philippe Senderos scored his first Premiership goal against Sunderland on October 7th, 2007 at the Emirates Stadium, and also scored his second goal against Blackburn Rovers on February 11th 2008, where he earned the title “Man of the Match” after the game. In March 2005, Philippe Senderos made his full international debut in Switzerland’s 0-0 draw against France, Paris. After playing an integral role in Switzerland’s successful campaign, Senderos was named in the 2006 FIFA World Cup playing alongside Patrick Muller, where he managed to score a goal in the third match. During an interview with “The Observer” he said that he speaks six languages, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Portuguese. While, he is very young, Senderos still has a full football career in front of him to unleash his potential.
