Phil Gordon is a professional poker player from Texas. He was born on July 6, 1970 and currently resides in Las Vegas. Aside from his poker career, Phil Gordon is also a teacher, author and television analyst. In 1991 he graduated from the Georgia Tech with a degree in computer science. After that Phil Gordon had worked for 6 years when he decided to retire from the high-tech industry and start his traveling tour around the world, playing poker. He started playing poker at age 7 against his aunt just for few pennies, but it was time to make things professional. Now Phil Gordon has 18 cashes and total winnings of $1,167,079. Phil Gordon also has experience in bridge championships. He won two national championships: the 1990 Red Ribbon Pairs and the 2008 Open Swiss Teams.
In 2001 was Phil Gordon`s first tournament participation at the World Series of Poker. His official debut was at the World Series of Poker championship event where he took fourth place, earning $400,000. The following year he won two final places in the Annual Series of Poker - third and sixth in the final tables. His first victory Phil Gordon reached at the World Poker Tournament’s Bay 101 Shooting Stars tournament, winning $360.000. In 2005 after his participation at the 36th Annual Series of Poker he was at the final, walking away with $75,350 for his third place. In 2006 Phil Gordon won the Full Tilt Poker Championship, overpowering five other notable poker players and taking $600,000. This was the biggest prize he has ever won in his whole professional experience. Phil Gordon also took part in the 2007 NBC National Heads-up Poker Championship tournament and finished in sixteenth position.
When away from the poker table Phil Gordon works as a spokesperson. He used to be commentator on Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown untill 2006. Then he worked for the World Series of Poker Championship event for Binion’s live Internet broadcast. It is not a surprise that Phil Gordon is an author too. He has three books on poker: The Real Deal, which was sold in 100,000 copies for four months and became a classic in this area; Little Green Book: Lessons and Teachings in No Limit Hold’em; and Little Blue Book: More Lessons and Hand Analysis in No Limit Hold’em. Phil Gordon has also written articles for magazines. Amazingly despite all his side work and little free time Phil Gordon is also the director of the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation. He made a big effort together with his friend and poker player, Rafe Furst to persuade players into giving 1% of their tournament winnings to the foundation. In his interviews Phil Gordon makes the impression that he is not like other people. He enjoys life to its fullest and makes the world a better place in the process. Now Phil Gordon is happily living with his son, who was born in May, 2008.
