Highlights of Philip Bonang’s career as a captain include the purchase and refitting of the Jane & Flora, a historic Eastern-rigged dragger, in 1978. Philip Bonang brought the Flora & Jane into the ottertrawling and offshore scallop fisheries in 1979, and he remained in charge of the vessel until 1995. Philip Bonang bore responsibility for all aspects of operations on the Flora & Jane and his other fishing vessels. Moreover, Philip Bonang spearheaded all business activities, including marketing, sales, and accounting. 

Furthermore, Philip Bonang has made strong contributions to educational institutions such as the Sound School Regional Vocational Aquaculture Center. Philip Bonang also served as a Technical Communications Instructor at the State of Connecticut’s Electric Boat Apprenticeship. During that time, Philip Bonang was selected to write curricula in business and technical communications for union and design personnel. Philip Bonang was also appointed Lead Instructor of Technical Communications I & II, in addition to his other duties.
