About Paul Robinson

Paul Robinson is a football goalkeeper, who was born on October 15, 1979 in Beverley, England. He got his education at the Beverley Grammar School in his hometown. He lives with his wife, Rebecca, and children, Lucy May and Jack, in North West London.

Though Paul Robinson was a part of the English squad in the Euro 2004, he got an opportunity to goal-keep for the England national football team only in the qualifying matches of the 2006 World Cup. He played for his country in the finals of the 2006 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup held in Germany. During group matches of the FIFA World Cup, he conceded no goals to Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago. Paul Robinson managed to keep four clean sheets out of five games he had participated in, including the one against Ecuador in the 16th match. In spite of his clean sheet against Portugal in the quarter-finals, England lost 3-1 to Portugal in the penalty shoot-out, which ended his country’s progress into the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Since 2003, Paul Robinson has represented the England national team and has earned 41 international caps.

Beginning his youth club career with the Leeds United Football Club, he made it through the youth ranks and moved to the first team in 1998. In that year, Paul Robinson played his first match for the club against Chelsea and kept a clean sheet. He scored his first goal against the Swindon Town FC in a League Cup match during the 2003-04 season, which brought about an extra time. He saved two penalty kicks and helped his team to emerge victorious. During his tenure at the Leeds United FC, Paul Robinson made 95 appearances for the team before moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Club in May 2004.

Between 2004 and 2008, he played with the Spurs in 137 matches and scored a remarkable goal in a Premier League game against Watford on March 17, 2007. The goal that he scored was a free-kick from outside his penalty area, in which the ball bounced over the head of the Watford goalkeeper, Ben Foster, and into the net. By scoring the goal, Paul Robinson became the third goalkeeper in the Premier League history and also the third goalscoring goalkeeper in the English League of the 2006-07 season.

Under his captaincy, the Spurs won 1-0 against the Southend United FC in the quarter-final match of the Football League Cup. With Paul Robinson as the captain, the Tottenham Hotspur team managed to draw 0-0 in the third round of the Football Association (FA) Cup at Cardiff City. On February 21, 2008, his team won 3-2 against Slavia Prague in the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Cup. He captained the Spurs, which defeated Chelsea (2-1) and bagged the League Cup trophy in 2008.

On joining the Blackburn Rovers Football Club in July 2008, Paul Robinson made his first appearance for the Rovers against Northwich Victoria. Wearing the club’s shirt number one, he helped the team win 2-1 on July 30, 2008.
