Known as “Robbo” in the football world, Paul Robinson was the captain of the First XI team of St. Michael's Catholic High School and guided this team to the English Schools' Football National Final at Tranmere Rovers. Starting his career at Watford’s youth system, he graduated to the senior team in 1996 and played for Watford till 2003. Paul Robinson made his debut for the club on October 29, 1996 as a second-minute substitute in a 1-1 draw against bitter rivals Luton Town. During the 1996-1997 season, he went on to play ten more games for Watford and followed it up with fifteen appearances and two League goals in the subsequent season. Paul Robinson began featuring as a regular half-way through the 1998-1999 season and was a part of the team in the club's run to the play-offs. He had played thirty two games during the club’s Premiership season and remained in the club when they returned to Division One. Paul Robinson made a total of 227 appearances during his eight-season stint at Watford and scored nine goals to his credit.
Watford sold Paul Robinson to West Bromwich Albion in October 2003 for an initial transfer fee of £250,000. This fee was later increased to £375,000, because he had made enough number of appearances for this club and Albion had been promoted to the Premiership. He made his first appearance for the club on October 18, 2003 in a 1-0 victory over Norwich City. Paul Robinson netted his first goal for the club in April 2005 in a match that ended in a draw with Aston Villa. He scored the equalizing goal in this match, a feat that helped Albion escape the relegation. In June 2006, Watford had attempted to buy him back, but the move was rejected by Albion’s management, because it felt that it was important to keep Paul Robinson in Albion if the club wanted to return to the Premier League. Following this, he went on to sign a new three-year deal with West Bromwich Albion in July 2006. November 2007 saw Paul Robinson being named in the Championship Team of the Week, as his club emerged victorious in clash against Watford. He was again selected in the Championship Team of the Week after he helped his team win 4-3 against Colchester United on March 29, 2008. This skilled defender, along with teammates Jonathan Greening and Kevin Phillips, was named in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Championship Team of the Year after contributing to Albion’s promotion to the Premiership as league champions. As of 2008, Paul Robinson has made over 180 appearances for West Bromwich Albion and has four goals to his credit.
