About Paul Matteo

Paul Matteo is an American professional poker player currently living in Plainville, CT, United States. He entered the poker circuit in 2005 and since then, he has made total tournament winnings of $652,072 with two cashes. In April 2005, Paul Matteo entered the New England Poker Classic and managed a decent placing in the No-Limit Hold'em event. He had his first major success, when he participated in Event 11 – World Poker Tour (WPT) No-Limit Hold'em Championship of the Foxwoods Poker Classic/WPT Event Season V Tournament. In the event, he outlasted a field of 415 players to move to heads-up play with Raj Patel, the winner of the 2007 Foxwoods Poker Classic $10000 No-Limit Championship.

Raj had almost a 2 to 1 chip advantage when heads-up play began. Paul Matteo thought it was the right time to double up when a K35 flop gave him top pair with K2. A K on the turn gave him a set. Each time Paul Matteo came out betting, he was called by Raj. After a 7 on the river, Paul Matteo was all-in but Raj Patel turned over 46 for a straight to claim the first place. Paul Matteo won the runner-up title with $643,275 in prize money.
