Pascal Hens, born on March 26, 1980 in Daun, Germany, is a professional handball player who plays in the left back position. He plays for the HSV Hamburg in the German Bundesliga. Pascal Hens currently resides in Hamburg, Germany and is single. He draws his inspiration from Heiner Brand, a former West German handball player.
Pascal Hens started playing handball at his home club, TG Kastel at an early age of six. This six-foot-eight inch athletic player, has been competing in international handball competitions since 2001 and prefers to shoot from outside. The very first year of his international career was a fascinating one. The German team finished as runners-up in the Junior Super Cup, and they made it to the third place in the World Military Championships. The next year, Pascal Hens was a part of the silver-medal winning team at the 2002 European Championship held in Sweden. In the 2003 World Men's Handball Championship in Portugal, the German team again won the silver.
Pascal Hens played a crucial role in Germany winning the silver medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, after a tough fight against Croatia, to whom they lost the gold. He also helped a much-determined German team secure gold at the 2004 European Championship in Slovenia. Pascal Hens led Germany to win the 2007 World Handball Championship in their home country. This win enabled Germany to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Games along with eleven other teams. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the German team competed against the Republic of Korea in their first preliminary match on August 10, 2008 and won the game. Pascal Hens contributed 4 goals in their much-expected win. In the next match against Iceland Pascal Hens collected a knee injury and could not take part in the remaining matches of the Olympics.
Though Pascal Hens started his career with TG Kastel, he later moved to HSV Hamburg. With persistent practice and teamwork he helped it lift the 2006 German Cup championship. The team also won the 2007 European Handball Federation (EHF) Winner’s Cup, the handball equivalent of the Champions League. He regards the HSV Hamburg team as a model for other teams and enjoys being with this team. Though he finds the Spanish league interesting he has no plans of leaving the German league in the near future.
His four medal win in the European and World championships and a host of other titles, has made the name Pascal Hens become identical to victory. His greatest asset is his power jump shot, which is one of the best in the world.
