About Pamela Winnick
Pamela Winnick - Professional Summary:
A native of New York who now resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, novelist Pamela R. Winnick considers herself fortunate. Following a 20-year legal career, Pamela R. Winnick rediscovered her passion for writing. More than two decades after graduating from Columbia Law School, Winnick earned her Master of Science in Journalism from the same institution, quickly obtaining a position at The Blade in Toledo, Ohio. Shortly thereafter, Pamela R. Winnick transferred to a sister newspaper, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where she wrote several front-page stories. The recipient of the Overseas Press Club of America Award for her journalism, Winnick has also contributed freelance articles to The Wall Street Journal and The Weekly Standard LLC. In 2002, Pamela R. Winnick decided that she wanted to focus on writing fiction, specifically historical fiction. She expects to finish her current novel, which focuses on a Jewish family during the American Revolution, by June 2011. A member of the Historical Novel Society, Pamela R. Winnick remains an avid reader despite her grueling writing schedule. Although she regularly writes for nine hours per day, Pamela R. Winnick still finds time to read several books each week. She likes Edith Wharton and Anthony Trollope, who wrote two of her favorite novels, Summer and The Way We Live Now, respectively. In order to learn more about Pamela R. Winnick, visit her blog, Writing Historical Fiction About Jews During the American Revolution, at www.pamelarwinnick.blogspot. The blog includes excerpts from her upcoming novel, featuring Jewish heroine Rebecca Gomez, as well as entries by Winnick describing how she struggled to recreate colonial New York during this time period. Interesting historical tidbits abound, such as how New York City merely consisted of a “sliver” of land now commonly known as Wall Street and how the only synagogue at the time was located on Mill Street. According to Pamela R. Winnick, most historians agree that nearly 2,000 Jews had settled in the United States by the mid-1700s. A member of the American Jewish Historical Society, Pamela R. Winnick recently started a new group on LinkedIn called Jewish Patriots.
