Painters Sydney: Comparing different types of interior residential paints and how to apply them
A well-painted home interior is not only attractive but relaxing as well. Imagine coming home to a well-painted living room or bedroom—you’ll feel relaxed and happy. However, what happens if you notice the paint on the walls inside your home chipping or shedding off? Perhaps this is an indication that you need to repaint your walls?
If you have had plans to have the interior of your home repainted for a while now, then surely you’re thinking of seeking the assistance of residential painting contractors. Even if you will be letting professional painters perform house painting services on your behalf, it is important that you gain an understanding of what is needed for the project and the process involved for each phase so that you will know what results to expect. One of the most important components of any painting project is the paint. The type of paint you use on your wall can affect the overall result for your painting project. In this article, we will take a look at the different types of painting products used for home interiors and the best way to apply them.
There are two main types of paint used for painting the interior part of the home: solvent-based and water-based paints. Solvent-based or oil-based paints take a whole day to dry out and will require paint thinners and turpentine to clean up. Imagine how hard it will be for you to clean up solvent-based paint blotches on the floor! If you don’t have enough patience with waiting for the paint to dry then I suggest you use a water-based paint instead. Water-based paints (latex) are fast-drying and easy to clean up. If you have to clean up blotches of latex paint on the floor or on your furniture, you don’t have to stress over it. You can simply clean it up with soap and water.
Although paint is divided into two main types, there are other categories of paint according to the finish or texture you want. Paint finishes are called by different names by different manufacturers and companies. However, they are popularly called as gloss, semi-gloss, flat and satin. Let us get to know these types of paint finishes one by one.
FLAT—flat paint is an excellent choice if you’re painting large walls and ceilings. Flat paint features a glare-free finish that is perfect for concealing imperfections thus the surfaces will end up looking smooth. Other areas at home where you can use flat paints are the living rooms, dining areas and master bedrooms.
SATIN—satin paint is slightly glossy yet features the same effect of a flat finish. This type of paint is ideal for areas at home that are considered “high-traffic” such as the children’s bedrooms, hallways and family rooms. This type of paint works well on wooden fixtures as well!
GLOSS—gloss paint is shiny and easy to clean however it magnifies or highlights imperfections on the wall or surfaces more than other type of paint finishes. Cracks or wall chips will be obvious if you use gloss paint finish. It is strongly advised that you limit the use of gloss paint finish on cabinets, doors, wood trim and furniture.
