Orn Eyjolfsson is a football player born on June 8, 1990 in Iceland. In the field, he can play as a defender as well as a midfielder. He is the son of Eyjolfur Giafar Sverrisson, an illustrious former Icelandic international football veteran.
Orn Eyjolfsson began his international football career at the Under-16 level representing Iceland. He played extremely well at the 2007 European Under-17 Championship and Orn Eyjolfsson was suitably acknowledged by the United European Football Association (UEFA) as a player to look-out for in the future. He made his competitive debut at the Under-21 level in November 2008 and was the major force behind Iceland’s first win at the European Championship 2009 campaign over Belgium, the hosts, with a 2-1 lead. Orn Eyjolfsson has won four international caps for the U-21 team and his participation in international matches helped him to hone his skills in a short span of time.
He started his football career at the age of 16 with the football club of Handknattleiksfelag Kopavogs, a sports club based in the town of Kopavogur, Iceland, which plays at the top level of Icelandic football. Orn Eyjolfsson regularly featured in the games the club played and quickly progressed through the ranks, gaining the attention of many of Europe’s leading clubs. Orn Eyjolfsson spent a week on trial with the West Ham United football club in February 2008 and was eventually signed by the club in July 2008 on a long-term contract from his previous club.
