Omar is one of the few law students in Canada to participate in multiple law exchange programs with other universities internationally, including partnerships with the University of Toronto, Thomas M. He received the international CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in academic achievement for the highest performance in law courses on the holocaust and genocide, and another in religious legal systems.

He was actively involved in his law school community, holding the role of President of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), the Health Law Club, and the Mature Students Club. As Magister of Rand Inn he lead UWO’s chapter of Phi Delta Phi (ΦΔΦ), an international legal fraternity.  He founded the Western Law Review Association, a group dedicated to establishing the University of Western Ontario Journal of Legal Studies, and created the largest law school blog and podcast in Canada at Law is Cool.
