Demuni Nuwan Tharanga Zoysa represents Sri Lanka in international cricket. He was born on 13th May, 1978 in Colombo and is a left-arm seam bowler.

Nuwan first stint with international cricket happened in the year 1996-97 during the New Zealand tour. One of those few players who show remarkable improvement with each passing game, Nuwan Zoysa is a promising cricketer who has shown as much excellence in test matches as in ODIs. This can be easily proved by the fact that in only his 8th test match after joining the team, Zoysa claimed a hat-trick in the first over of the match against Zimbabwe. Very few have managed to achieve this feat in a test match and this achievement catapulted Zoysa to fame and won the hearts of many a loyal cricket fans. This happened in Harare in November 1999.

The cricketing journey of Nuwan Zoysa has not been a smooth ride as his career is marked with many unfortunate and grave injuries. But this did not the least bit hold him back from regaining pace after health restored as he was up and about with nip and bounce on the field. Apart from exhibiting his fine skills as a spinner, he has also shown good batting skills and stylish strokeplay. One of his games worth mentioning for his batting abilities is the 2003-04 ODI where he scored almost half a century with 47 runs which helped Sri Lanka a great deal in beating Australia in the final match. While his bowling continued to climb the upward graph, another feather to his cap was a one-day series against South Africa in the same year. Here, Nuwan Zoysa pocketed a good 5 wickets proving to be a damaging factor for the opponents. Till date, Zoysa has scalped 64 test wickets and 108 ODI wickets.

Nuwan Zoysa was one of the key players in the Deccan Chargers team during the Indian Premier League. He bowled 3 overs against Mumbai Indians and gave 37 runs at an economy rate of 12.33 and in the same match he scored 10 runs (with 1 four) while batting in 7 balls at a strike rate of 142.85.
