Nuria Fernandez

Nuria Fernandez is a senior executive with three decades of experience in public and private sector transportation project management. She holds an M.B.A. from Roosevelt University and a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Bradley University. Gaining skills in transportation planning, public policy, and project development and implementation with the Chicago Transit Authority, Ms. Fernandez took a Deputy Administrator position within the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration in 1997. Nuria Fernandez joined the Tyco International, Ltd. subsidiary Earth Tech, Inc. in 2001, focusing on strategic leadership initiatives that expanded the firm’s transportation project capacities. In her nearly five years with the firm, Ms. Fernandez helped grow revenue by $500 million through increased contracts in rail, airport, road, and bridge infrastructure.

 

She also boosted Earth Tech’s public profile through positions on a number of industry boards and commissions. Nuria Fernandez served as Commissioner for the City of Chicago’s Department of Aviation from 2006 to 2008. In this capacity, Ms. Fernandez oversaw the operations of some 900,000 aircraft units annually at Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport. Managing an annual budget of $800 million dollars, she directed day-to-day activities of 2000 employees and served as landlord to 93 airlines and 140 business tenants with 45,000 combined employees. Milestones in Nuria Fernandez’s two-year tenure with the Chicago Department of Aviation included implementing interactive technology systems to assist people with disabilities and negotiating license agreements with terminal business concessions.

 

For the past two and a half years, Ms. Fernandez has held a position as Senior Vice President with the international construction, engineering, and operations services leader CH2M Hill. With a focus on complex, high-profile infrastructure programs, Nuria Fernandez has guided the firm’s expansion into major Latin American aviation, transit, maritime, and water market sectors. She also provides strategic consulting tools focused on CH2M Hill’s development of civil infrastructure niche markets. Ms. Fernandez engages with clients in determining their infrastructure conditions and assessing transportation needs.

 

Nuria Fernandez is a supporter of the Special Olympics and has invested time and effort into community projects involving the Chicago Children's Museum, The Primo Center for Women and Children, and LaRabida Children’s Hospital. Ms. Fernandez is proud to have been a recipient of the 2000 March of Dimes Transportation Award and is a Vision 2020 Women's Equality Delegate from Illinois.
