About Nimachia Hernandez
Nimachia Hernandez - Professional Summary:
A distinguished scholar, Nimachia Hernandez earned degrees from Princeton and Harvard and held professor positions at Harvard and the University of California, Berkeley. Her academic field involves Native American culture, specifically the Blackfoot tribe and their customs and religion, as well as the changes wrought by Western settlers during the frontier era of the United States’ history. A thought leader in this specialized field, Nimachia Hernandez takes part in numerous committees and symposiums as speaker, researcher, and expert.
Recognized for her pursuit of academic excellence, Nimachia Hernandez is the recipient of multiple grants and fellowships. In 2008, Harvard Divinity School awarded her a fellowship, along with a visiting professor position. During her time as an instructor at the University of California, Berkeley, she was a three-time winner of a faculty research grant from Berkeley and a recipient of a grant from the Townsend Center Strategic Working Groups for the fall 2004 semester. She earned two fellowships that contributed to her research, one as Senior Fellow for the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School and one as Fellow granted by The Rockefeller Foundation. The Smithsonian Institute also awarded her a grant to assist in the funding of her scholarly projects.
During her time as a graduate student, Nimachia Hernandez received fellowships through the Fulbright Scholar Program and the U.S. Department of Education. Hernandez acquired research funding though the Harvard Native American Program, Jason S. Bailey Scholarship, the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
A leading scholar in Native American studies, Nimachia Hernandez maintains memberships with several professional associations, including American Anthropological Association, the American Academy of Religion, the International Association for Environmental Philosophy, the Society for Applied Anthropology, Native American and Indigenous Studies Association, Blackfoot Educational Association, and Tapestry: The Institute for Philosophy, Religion, and the Life Sciences.
Nimachia Hernandez continues her research on Native American philosophy, aesthetics, and religion. She awaits the publication of a book on the subject and is nearing completion of another. She continues to travel and contribute to panels, conferences, and symposiums.
