Nigel Quashie is a professional football midfielder, who was born on July 20, 1978 in Nunhead, England and has been nicknamed “Quashie-modo” in the football circuit.

Owing to his brilliant performances, Nigel Quashie earned four caps for the England Under-21 national team and has also represented the England B team. His Scottish descent made him eligible to play for Scotland, and he made his first international appearance for the Scotland team against Estonia in May 2004. Nigel Quashie netted his maiden goal for Scotland in its 4–1 win over Trinidad and Tobago. He won the appreciation of Bertie Vogts, the team’s manager, who quoted that he was a fantastic player and a real leader on the pitch. Nigel Quashie was a part of the team, which played in the World Cup and the European Championship qualifier matches and has earned 14 caps for Scotland till the end of the 2006–07 season.


Nigel Quashie kicked off his football career by joining Queens Park Rangers as a trainee in August 1995. He made his league debut for the club in December that year against Manchester United at Old Trafford. He made 58 league appearances for the club scoring thrice during his tenure and was transferred to Nottingham Forest for a fee worth £2.5 million. After a brief stint with Nottingham Forest, for which, he played in 43 games during the 1998-00 seasons, Nigel Quashie signed a three-year deal with Portsmouth in August 2000 for a transfer fee of £600,000. He made it to the first team of the club and made his presence felt in 37 matches during the 2001-02 season. The following season, in his vice-captaincy, Portsmouth went onto win the First Division Championship, which led to its promotion to the Premier League. He was instrumental in the club’s thirteenth-place finish in the Premier League and during the 2004-05 season, he was given the captain’s armband. Nigel Quashie represented the club in 148 games netting 13 goals during his association with Portsmouth, which lasted for five seasons.


Nigel Quashie moved onto Southampton in January 2005 for a three-and-a-half year deal. Southampton’s manager, Harry Redknapp, was happy to have him as a part of the club and he made his debut against Everton the following month. He was made captain of the team after the departure of Jason Dodd and made 37 appearances for Southampton.


Nigel Quashie signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with West Bromwich Albion in January 2006. He won the confidence of the team’s manager, Bryan Robson, and made his first appearance for the club in a 2–0 Premier League win over Blackburn Rovers the following month. He netted his maiden goal for West Bromwich in a match against Arsenal in April that season. West Ham United signed Nigel Quashie in 2007 on a three-and-a-half year bond. He played for the club the first time against Fulham and has appeared in eight games as of December 2007.
