Nicole Meyer-Morse - Professional Summary:   

 

Nicole Meyer-Morse is a Science and Technology Fellow for the American Association for the Advancement of Science at the United States Department of Defense, where she assists in coordinating the Chemical and Biological Defense Program's efforts to develop medical countermeasures and diagnostics against chemical and biological threats.

In 2009, Nicole Meyer-Morse earned her PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology, with a focus on microbiology and immunology, at the University of California, Berkeley. She completed a short postdoctoral assignment and continued on as a Research and Policy Analyst at the Center for Emerging and Neglected Diseases at UC Berkeley. Nicole Meyer-Morse completed a Master's degree in Molecular and Cell Biology at San Francisco State University in conjunction with Douglas Hanahan's laboratory at the University of California, San Francisco. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. During her scientific career, Nicole Meyer-Morse co-authored 10 publications with over 40 collaborators in seven different peer-reviewed journals. She was also awarded the outstanding graduate student instructor award in 2005, a prestigious teaching award presented to less than 10 percent of graduate students at UC Berkeley.

Nicole Meyer-Morse is or has been an active member of the American Society of Microbiology, the American Society for the Advancement of Science, the American Association of Women in Science, the American Cancer Society, and the American Public Health Association.

Nicole Meyer-Morse is an active volunteer. She was an instructor at San Quentin Prison, where she taught immunology and infectious diseases to inmates enrolled in an Associate degree program. She has also been an educational speaker at Cesar Chavez Academy, where she spoke with middle school students from underprivileged backgrounds about careers in science. Nicole Meyer-Morse has also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in Oakland, California, and at several health clinics in both Southern California and Colorado.

Currently a resident of Washington, D.C., Nicole Meyer-Morse continues to pursue volunteer opportunities and has been involved with Bread for the City, a nonprofit charitable organization that provides basic services to those in need.
