About Nels Olson
Nels Olson is the Vice Chairman and Co-Leader, Global Board & CEO Services Practice. He also acts as Office Managing Director of the Washington, D.C. office and the head of the Government Affairs practice. Nels, whose experience placing CEOs and other top executives in Fortune 500 companies, combines his Washington, DC savvy with his knowledge of business to help clients address the need for business leaders who understand the nexus between business and government.
In the past 14 years, Nels Olson has completed in excess of 350 successful senior leadership searches for a wide range of Fortune 500 companies, associations and non-profit organizations. Recent CEO level assignments have included the commissioner of the NFL, Boston Federal Reserve, NFIB, PhRMA and Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers to name a few. Recent Board assignments include NewsCorp and Pepco Holdings.
Nels has placed executives and board members across multiple industries including advanced technology, financial services, industrial and healthcare. His placements span the world including Europe, the United States, Asia and Latin America.
Nels started his career in public relations and government service. He previously worked for the DC based PR firm Fleishman-Hillard and also served at the White House in the Office of Presidential Personnel. His responsibilities included obtaining political clearance for all presidential appointees and he also identified and recommended candidates for senior political positions in cabinet agencies.
Outside of work, Nels is a board member of the WolfTrap Foundation and the Starlight-Starbright Foundation.
He earned his bachelor of arts in political science at the State University of New York. He then furthered his education and obtained a master’s in business administration from The George Washington University.
