Nedum Onuoha is an English professional football player and was born on November 12, 1986 in Warri, Nigeria and was brought up in Manchester, England. As of 2008, he plays for Manchester City and resides with his family in the Middleton Area of Manchester.
Chinedum Onuoha, commonly known as Nedum Onuoha attended the Hulme Grammar private school in Oldham and had chosen to pursue a degree in accountancy from a university in Manchester.
Nedum Onuoha represents England at the Under-21 level internationally and has been a regular face in this team since 2005. He made his debut on October 12, 2005 and had also been selected in the squad for the 2007 European Under 21s Championship in Netherlands. He had been a part of the team that played in all of England’s four matches during the Championship. Nedum Onuoha was selected as the captain of the nation’s Under-21 team for the first time in a match that ended as a goalless draw against Poland’s Under-21 team. Overall, Nedum Onuoha has won 15 international caps for this team and has scored one goal. He is eligible to play in the team till the summer of 2009, and he had also received an international call to play for Nigeria in March 2007.
Nedum Onuoha was a brilliant sprinter at the junior level and had finished second in the final of the 2001 English School's Athletics Association Junior 100 meters contest. He clocked a time of 11.09 seconds and was fourteen years old when he achieved this feat. Nedum Onuoha had also set the national record for boys’ under-15 standing triple jump at Wigan in 2002 by clearing a distance of 9.44 meters.
He started playing football professionally at Manchester City’s youth club during the 2003-2004 season. The following season, Nedum Onuoha graduated to the club’s first team and played in a friendly match against Bury. On October 27, 2004, at the age of 17, he made his first team debut for the club against Arsenal at the Carling Cup.
His maiden appearance in the Premier League happened on November 1, 2004, where he came on as a substitute in a match against Norwich City. Nedum Onuoha played 18 matches for Manchester City in his first season and played another twelve in the next season amidst injuries. He established himself as a worthy player and hence the club signed him on a four-year contract.
Nedum Onuoha was honored with the post of the team’s captain in the second round of the Carling Cup, where he guided his team to a 2-1 victory over Bristol City. As of 2008, he has featured in 61 games for the club and has scored a goal.
