About Nagra

Stefan Kudelski introduced his groundbreaking portable recording device, the Nagra, in the early 1950s. Kudelski was a Polish émigré whose family fled in advance of the Nazi invasion and settled in Switzerland. It was while studying engineering at the Swiss federal institute of technology École Polytechnique de l’Université de Lausanne (now École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) that Kudelski developed his first recording device. The Nagra set the standard for portable recording devices among journalists and, beginning in the early 1960s, for cinematic applications. Employing an innovative synchronization system, the Nagra III NP was used by the film industry and became synonymous with high-quality sound recording. Nagra equipment has earned several awards for sound quality, including three Oscars and an Emmy.

Currently, Nagra Audio offers a wide range of professional recording devices, as well as exceptional hi-fi audio equipment. The handheld ARES ML and Nagra SD, highly portable and durable, are equipped with built-in loudspeakers and stereo monitoring; these devices are commonly used by reporters in the field. For professional recording applications, including film and television production, Nagra offers the Nagra VI, a sophisticated device equipped with mastering and post-production capabilities. The Nagra LB is a battery-powered unit with a removable hard disk and editing capabilities, excellent for recording sounds in television shows and on film sets.

The Nagra VI is ideal for cinematic applications. This model is geared toward on-location film and television production, as well as music and wildlife recordings. Portable and durable, the Nagra IV features eight channels and is equipped with internal time code options and iXML compatibility.
Nagra Audio also features a full range of top-of-the-line hi-fi equipment for the demanding audiophile. The Nagra line includes CD players, high-definition digital-to-analog converters, vacuum tube phono stages and pre-amplifiers, power amplifiers, and pyramid stereo amplifiers.

Based in Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne, Switzerland, Nagra Audio has 60 years of experience in the business of manufacturing high-quality recording and audio equipment. Its holding company, the Kudelski Group, embraces modern digital technology and is a major player in the production and marketing of state-of-the-art digital television systems and digital security systems. In addition to Nagra, its flagship brand, the Kudelski Group specializes in providing integrated security software for television broadcasters and content providers.
