About Murali Kartik

Murali Kartik is one of those few Indian cricketers who have devoted themselves in entirety to the game. He is a classic left-arm spinner who is known for his feisty show on the turf. A fair, young man with a beaded necklace adorning his neck and his wrist spinning some excellent yorkers – that’s how Murali Kartik is best known. He was born on the 11th of September in the year 1976 in Chennai (Madras). The journey of International Cricket has only just begun for this fair-play cricketer who yet has a long way to go.

His high-arm and open-chest action on the field bowls batsmen for a maiden over. Kartik managed to find his way to the team in 1999 after delivering some superb domestic-level performances. He has to his credit quite a few memorable match-winning performance one of them being his test debut against South Africa where he claimed 6 wickets with an average of 33.5.

Murali Kartik made his ODI debut in a home series against Zimbabwe in 2002. Though playing second fiddle to Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble, Kartik has shown considerable improvement in his on-field performances. However, he failed to win the confidence of his captain and was in action only when Singh or Kumble were down with injury. Kartik’s moment in the sun was clearly during his top-class game at Mumbai in 2004-05 when India was playing against Australia. Murali Kartik scalped a good 7 wickets propelling India to a glorious win. This splendid show bagged him a Man of the Match award. Murali Kartik’s loop trajectory tactics, off-line spins and tantalizing bouncers indeed need more than just a few chances.

He played for the Kolkata Knight Riders team at the Indian Premier League.
