About Ms. Karen DeSoto
Karen DeSoto is a professional in the legal field, a humanitarian, and a role model for members of her community.
Karen DeSoto has spent over a decade building her extensive resume as an attorney. Before establishing the Law Offices of Karen F. DeSoto, the administration of the late Mayor and State Senator of Jersey City, Mayor Glenn Cunningham, appointed Karen DeSoto as Chief Corporation Counsel. DeSoto was the first Hispanic, the first woman, and the youngest person ever to obtain the distinguished appointment. Karen DeSoto also garnered significant experience serving as a public defender, prosecutor and private civil attorney.
Combining her valuable legal strategy skills and advocacy focus, Karen DeSoto shares her legal knowledge with audiences as a legal analyst on major networks, such as MSNBC and CNN. As a frequent and respected media commentator, DeSoto provides thoughtful, eye-opening, and fact-specific legal strategies and theories relating to national legal news and cases with a national audience.
Apart from her duties as a legal analyst, Karen DeSoto dedicates much of her energy toward community service. Providing her valuable input, DeSoto is an active member of the Board of Directors of the Jersey City’s Head Start program, the Beth Miriam homeless shelter project, and The Hudson County Hispanic Coalition. Karen DeSoto is also involved with the Ray of Hope Foundation, an organization she helped co-found in 1999 that is committed to helping children with terminal illnesses and their families.
Karen DeSoto is a graduate of Temple University School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctorate and Master of Laws in Trial Advocacy. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University.
