About Mr. Srinivas Anumolu
Srinivas Anumolu, founder of global freelance marketplace Elance, has led dual careers in financial analysis and online entrepreneurship. Recognizing the role that affordable education plays in improving quality of life, Srinivas Anumolu also created an online education portal that has helped thousands of disadvantaged students.
Srinivas Anumolu began his education in India, studying at the internationally renowned Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and training in computers and mathematics. Srinivas Anumolu also received a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, where he did coursework in finance and accounting. In 1987, Srinivas Anumolu moved to Los Angeles and enrolled in UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, undertaking Ph.D. coursework in economics, finance, statistics, and mathematics. Srinivas Anumolu combined his earlier training in computers with his Ph.D. research interests to develop financial software in SAS and Fortran.
In 1990, Srinivas Anumolu accepted a product management position at Barra, Inc., a leader in the financial software market. Srinivas Anumolu applied his knowledge of finance and computing to conduct complex mathematical analyses for Barra’s clients, which include large financial institutions.
Srinivas Anumolu’s success as an analyst led to his recruitment by New York Life, where he served as a Director from 1994 until 1998. Building upon his educational background and practical experience at Barra, Srinivas Anumolu managed multi-billion dollar portfolios with an emphasis on fixed-income securities. Srinivas Anumolu oversaw a team of traders and analysts and developed intricate computer finance tools that consistently outperformed market benchmarks.
Despite Srinivas Anumolu’s love of learning, he is a critic of traditional education systems. Srinivas Anumolu has written about the subject on his blog, srinianumolu.blogspot.com, as well as in a series of tweets. Although Srinivas Anumolu enjoys literature, including novels by Salman Rushdie and Gabriel García Márquez, he believes education should be focused on providing tools to address the needs of the present. Srinivas Anumolu contributes to this goal through his online education portal, in addition to supporting charities that include Greenpeace, Amnesty International, and the Sierra Club.
