About Mr. Srinivas Anumolu
Internet pioneer Srinivas Anumolu founded Elance in 1999, the first online marketplace for independent contractors. Inspired by an article on ecommerce trends by Thomas W. Malone and Robert J. Laubacher, Srinivas Anumolu developed the software infrastructure and business plan for Elance, in addition to raising venture capital for the Mountain View, California-based firm.
Prior to founding Elance with Beerud Sheth, Srinivas Anumolu led a successful career on Wall Street as a financial software analyst. From 1994 until 1998, Srinivas Anumolu served as a Director at New York Life, managing multi-billion dollar portfolios of fixed-income securities, including corporate and treasury bonds and mortgage-backed securities.
Srinivas Anumolu’s position at New York Life was preceded by a technical analysis role at Barra, Inc., a financial software company. At Barra, Srinivas Anumolu developed a range of fixed-income analysis models for collateralized mortgage obligations, mortgage-backed securities, and several other financial instruments. Srinivas Anumolu created software-based finance tools that employed mathematical algorithms, Monte Carlo simulations, and regression and time-series analyses.
A graduate of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Srinivas Anumolu also completed Ph.D. studies at the University of California, Los Angeles’s Anderson School of Management. At UCLA, Srinivas Anumolu studied finance, economics, mathematics, and statistics, combining these disciplines with programming knowledge in Fortran and SAS to develop financial tools.
Srinivas Anumolu has repeatedly proven his ability to innovate in cross-disciplinary contexts. In the 1990s, Srinivas Anumolu was a leader in the then-burgeoning field of technical analysis on Wall Street, combining economic theories with computer programming to develop finance tools. Building on insights gleaned as an analyst, Srinivas Anumolu’s subsequent Elance venture combined his expertise in finance and software design to meet the demand for a comprehensive, online freelancers’ network.
