About Mr. Nicholas Beim

Since 2000, Mr. Nicholas Beim has worked as a General Partner at venture capital firm Matrix Partners. Matrix Partners has been one of the top-ranked venture capital firms in the world over the last several decades, with investments in companies including Apple, Sandisk, Veritas and Sycamore Networks. Matrix Partners has 15 partners in the United States, India and China. It has produced two of the top-performing venture capital funds of all time. Bringing knowledge of the internet and technology sectors to his work at Matrix, Nicholas Beim has financed and helped build a number of prominent startups, including the Gilt Groupe, TheLadders.com, Care.com, Conductor, Intent Media, OATSystems, and JBoss.


Nicholas Beim began his career as a Media Project Officer for the U.S. Agency for International Development. Working closely with the nonprofit and private sectors, Nicholas Beim provided business advice and technical assistance to media organizations in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Nicholas Beim went on to join McKinsey & Company as an Associate, where he worked in the media, technology, and financial services sectors. Nicholas Beim then joined Goldman Sachs’s High Technology Investment Banking Group, where he helped advise technology and internet companies with financing activities and mergers and acquisitions.


Beginning his formal education at Phillips Academy Andover, Nicholas Beim went on to Stanford University, where he received the Rhinelander Award and the Fairclough Award and completed a B.A. in Philosophy. Nicholas Beim then studied International Relations at Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar, earning his Master of Philosophy in 1996.


Passionate about world affairs and contributing on a global scale, Nicholas Beim belongs to several international nonprofit organizations. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Nicholas Beim served on CFR’s Team Member Advisory Committee and served on the study group Innovation and Economic Performance. Nicholas Beim is also a Board Member of Endeavor, which helps support entrepreneurship in emerging economies. Nicholas Beim also retains membership in the Young Leadership Fellows, the Business Associates Club, and the National Venture Capital Association.


Mr. Nicholas Beim makes his home in Boston, Massachusetts.
