About Mr. Matt Vasgersian

Matt Vasgersian’s talents as a television and radio announcer encompass a number of sports, though he is best known for his work in baseball and football. Currently the lead anchor at MLB Network, Matt Vasgersian reaches an audience of approximately 50 million homes each weekday in his role on the networks flagship program “MLB Tonight”.


Before beginning his career as a sportscaster, Matt Vasgersian attended the University of Southern California, where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. Following his graduation, Matt Vasgersian’s first job in baseball was covering play-by-play for the Chicago Cubs minor short season class-A affiliate in Huntington, West Virginia. Continuing to hone his skill, Matt Vasgersian moved through the ranks of a number of minor league teams before he became the lead television announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1997.


Matt Vasgersian’s transition to the San Diego Padres in 2002 was complemented by several other gigs, including a host role on the Fox Sports Net game show “Sports Geniuses” in 2000. Also, on a national level, Matt Vasgersian continues to demonstrate his versatility, having covered three Olympic Games in the last decade and hosted televised poker championships with NBC.


Alongside Pat Haden and Terry Donahue, Matt Vasgersian provided play-by-play for the 2007 Orange Bowl. Also as a part of Fox Sports’ prestigious BCS Bowl coverage, Matt Vasgersian called two consecutive Fiesta Bowls.


Since he joined the MLB Network, Matt Vasgersian has maintained his status as one of the most familiar faces in sports.
