About Mr. Bruce Maag
A mental health professional and administrator with 40 years of experience in his field, Bruce Maag has devoted his life and career to the treatment and care of adults and children. The President and Chief Executive Officer of the International Phoenix Group in Delphos, Ohio, since June 2000, Bruce Maag laid the foundations for his profession as an undergraduate at The Ohio State University. From September 1966 through May 1970, Bruce Maag studied various topics in the Social Sciences at The Ohio State University, ultimately graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. During these formative years, Bruce Maag gained valuable experience as a Psychiatric Attendant at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima, Ohio, and as a recreation leader for the Training Institute of Central Ohio.
Following his undergraduate education, Bruce Maag found a full-time position with the Training Center for Youth in Columbus, serving as a youth counselor from February 1971 to June 1971. In this position, Bruce Maag was responsible for several emotionally disturbed delinquent children and developed his experience as a daily supervisor. In June 1971, Bruce Maag accepted an offer to work as a psychologist for the Lima State Hospital, where he spent the next three years interviewing, testing, and treating criminally insane patients in a maximum-security environment.
Returning to college in 1974, Bruce Maag split his time between advanced coursework in Counseling at the University of Dayton and his role as Executive Director of the Allen County Youth Services Bureau. A 1975 graduate of the University of Dayton, Bruce Maag earned his Master of Science in Counseling and continued to work for the Allen County Youth Services Bureau until December 1978. Over the years, Bruce Maag earned his designations as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker, and Fellow of the American Psychology Association. The founder of numerous organizations operating in the realms of mental health and social services, Bruce Maag established and ran such firms as Human Service Professions, the National Institute of Alternative Care Professionals, and Specialized Alternative for Families and Youth of America, Inc. (SAFY). Bruce Maag resides in Elida, Ohio.
