About Morten Gamst Pedersen

Morten Gamst Pedersen, born on September 8, 1981 in Vadso is a Norwegian footballer. He plays for the Norway National football team and as of August 2008 he has played in 32 matches and has made eight goals for his nation side. He received a Golden Watch award from the Football Association of Norway on the occasion of his 25th appearance for his country, making him one of the most preferred football players for Norway.

As a child, the favorite player of Morten Gamst Pedersen was Marco van Basten, retired Dutch striker. In September 2006, in a match against Hungary, he scored a goal that was very similar to the famous goal made by Marco in the final match of 1988 European Football Championship. As a result of that goal, major Norway newspapers, Aftenposten, Dagbladet and Verdens Gang named him “Van Gamsten”, which became his nickname.

In the early days of his practice, Morten Gamst Pedersen was trained by his coach, Ernst Pedersen to use his left foot rather than his natural right foot to help him become a successful footballer. The coaching sessions have proved effective as his left foot has become his dominant foot.

In the 2003-04 season, Morten Gamst Pedersen had his major breakthrough in his career when he played for the Norwegian Premier League club, Tromsø IL, and made seven goals. Later in 2004, he joined the Blackburn club, and he made his Football Association (FA) Premier League debut on August 28, 2004 against Manchester United, which ended up in a 1-1 draw.

Morten Gamst Pedersen was named as the Man of the Match in a match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 24, 2005. He fiercely hit two left-footed shots, which turned into goals for Blackburn Rovers and paved the way for the team’s win. Following his remarkable play in a match against Norwich City in 2005, Morten Gamst Pedersen was named as the Player of the month for the Blackburn Rovers in January 2005.

Notwithstanding the fact that Morten Gamst Pedersen had a rather slow start, his first season (2005-06) at Ewood Park became a grand success. He ruled the left-midfield position during that season and become famous for many spectacular goals. One among them was his volley in a match against Fulham in August 2005, which won him the Goal of the Month title awarded by the famous BBC’s Match of the Day television programme. After earning a place in the Rovers starting line-up, Morten Gamst Pedersen has made 27 appearances and scored 8 goals, which includes the crucial winning goal in the FA Cup Fifth Round Replay against Burnley Football Club (F.C).

Morten Gamst Pedersen enjoys his life as a footballer for Norway. He believes in himself and aims to impress his fans by his playing in all matches. When he is not playing football, he tries to go home to meet his family and friends. Apart from football, Morten Gamst Pedersen is a part of The Players, a Norwegian boy band consisting of four other professional footballers.
