Monir Elzalaki

Professional Summary:  

 

A veteran of the mushroom industry, Monir Elzalaki contributes his expertise in the field to Sylvan Inc. As President of Sylvan America, Inc., Elzalaki holds numerous responsibilities within Sylvan's global organization, which includes offices, production and research facilities, and clients on six continents. Sylvan provides mushroom spawn (seed) and other inoculants to mushroom growers around the world. Monir Elzalaki oversees Sylvan America's day-to-day operations, including production, sales, bioproducts, research and development, and business development opportunities.

Before entering the field of mycology, Monir Elzalaki attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied chemistry. Later, he accepted a position as manager of a mushroom spawn factory owned by Dole Food Company, Inc., and located in Soquel, California. Here, his duties included supervising all areas of spawn production. Additionally, he assisted with large-scale production of successful strains.

After a decade, Monir Elzalaki moved to Oak Grove Mushrooms, Inc., as Production Manager and 20 percent co-owner. Located in Salem, Oregon, Oak Grove consisted of mushroom farms in that state, California, and Utah. During his tenure, he also improved the firm's accounting methods. Subsequently, he spent a year with The Pictsweet Company as Production Manager, overseeing 400 employees and the company’s Salem-area mushroom production operation before beginning as Director of Sales with Sylvan America.

When not working, Monir Elzalaki enjoys flying as a licensed pilot. He also hikes and rock climbs.
