About MNPEA
Minnesota Public Employees Association (MNPEA) - Director: Mike Golen - President: Dave Deal - Legal Counsel: Rob Fowler
As the first Director of the MNPEA, Mike Golen is committed to providing fair, open representation, and to answering to the needs of the union’s membership. In a customer-centered approach to labor representation, MNPEA (Minnesota Public Employees Association, Inc.) leaders answer to their members, not the other way around. As a result, the MNPEA maintains completely open financial reports, and members of the union can override decisions made by the board. It is Golen’s responsibility to uphold these specific representation standards.
In addition to Mike Golen, key representatives of the MNPEA include President David Deal and Legal Counsel Rob Fowler. It is Fowler’s job to administer the union’s Legal Defense Plan and represent non-sworn public workers. Legal services offered through the MNPEA include representation at unemployment hearings, veterans’ preference hearings, internal affairs cases, and employer investigations of MNPEA members. Unlike other major unions, the MNPEA does not require members to pay additional legal fees on top of their monthly membership rates.
Public workers in Minnesota have cited a lack of input into union policies and political endorsements as a reason for changing their representation. At MNPEA, the members are the sole initiators of political and lobbying agendas.
While its members drive the MNPEA, its representatives bring more than 50 years of combined experience to their job of supporting public employees in the state of Minnesota. The MNPEA has constructed a website that offers extensive information and links detailing the benefits available to members. Public employees who want to discuss joining the union may visit MNPEA.com or call 612-FOR-MNPEA (612-367-6673).
