Thithi “Mimi” Tran was born on July 05, 1960 in Nha Trang, Vietnam and now resides in Torrance, California, USA. After moving to the United States in 1982, at the age of twenty-two, Tran found work in the electronics industry in Silicon Valley. After a tragic car accident, which occurred seven years later, left her disabled and unable to continue working in her field, in 1989 she began to play poker.
Before entering a tournament play, however, Mimi focused primarily on side games, like her mentor and close friend Barry Greenstein had. He pushed her to challenge herself at tournaments and during her first several games she did perfectly, against very rough competition. Mimi's success in high-stakes cash games and tournament play only proves how quickly she learns and how talented she is.
Tran has a number of money finishes in multiple World Series Of Poker (WSOP) championships, in two of which, she was 2nd . Mimi especially enjoys Limit Texas Hold'em and Seven-Card Stud.,she appeared at the 2004 World Poker Tour's Legends of Poker Limit Hold'em and Seven-Card Stud final table, where she finished fourth. This earned her a place at the desired World Poker Tour Ladies Night tournament in 2007 where she finished in fourth place.
Mimi has a friendly relationship with Barry Greenstein, as we can all see from his occasional appearances at her tournaments, occasionally guiding her from the sidelines. Mimi Trant has expressed gratitude for their relationship saying: "He turned me into the person I am right now - a great poker player." She also has two children to love and care about. Of course, it is not to anyone a secret that Barry is her ex-boyfriend and that he taught her how to play poker, and in return she taught him to speak Vietnamese. The two of them are often arguing about which one of them is a better teacher. Greenstein says that he is supreme, because he was the one who taught Mimi everything she knows about poker games, but Mimi disagrees with him, saying it is like that, simply, because she is the better student.
When you are a woman player in a game mostly played by men, it is extremely important to be tough and never back down. So Mimi Tran is constantly proving her skills and abilities to the whole poker world. She is even a highly respected member of the list of the most successful female poker players in terms of tournament earnings. As of 2008, her total live tournament winnings actually exceed $1,400,000.
