About Mike Pollitt


Mike Pollitt is an English professional goalkeeper who was born on February 29, 1972 in Farnworth, Lancashire. Nicknamed “Polly”, he started his career in football by joining the Manchester United Football Club (F.C.) in 1990, following which he had a one-year stint with Bury F.C. He moved to Lincoln City F.C. in 1992 and represented the club in 57 matches during the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons. In 1994, Mike Pollitt transferred to Darlington F.C. and played 55 matches for the club that season.


Mike Pollitt joined Notts County F.C. in 1995 and stayed with the club till 1998. During his tenure with Notts County he went on loan to Oldham Athletic, Gillingham, Brentford and Sunderland football clubs. In 1998 Mike Pollitt transferred to Rotherham United F.C., a South Yorkshire club, for which he played in 94 matches, before moving to Chesterfield.


Mike Pollitt came back to Rotherham United F.C. in 2001, and in his second innings with the club, he made 175 appearances. During his spell with the club, he registered 77 clean sheets, which was the highest in the history of the club. His contribution to the Rotherham United F.C. earned him plaudits and earned constant references to being ‘the best goalkeeper outside the Premiership’.


On the advice of Paul Barlow, a former football player and official, Mike Pollitt joined Wigan Athletic F.C. in June 2005 and got the opportunity to play in the Premier League. His impressive performances won him a place as a regular player in the first team. In February 2006, Mike Pollitt was instrumental in helping the Latics secure the runners-up place in the League Cup Final. He also won the Man of the Match award for making a series of saves, including a Reyes penalty in the semi-final of the 2006 Carling Cup in Highbury.


Mike Pollitt was loaned out to Ipswich Town F.C. in November 2006 on a one-month deal, but after his first match for the club, he was recalled by Wigan. In January 2007, he went to Burnley F.C. on a one-month loan and played four matches for the club after which, before being recalled by Wigan.


Mike Pollitt aspires to establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper in the Wigan Athletic team and is looking forward to work closely with John Filan and Gary Walsh, fellow players, and make sure the team performs well in the forthcoming matches.
