About Mike Cero
Mike Cero, elected to the Mercer Island, Washington, City Council in 2007, currently serves on the Parks & Recreation, Youth & Family Services Advisory Board and Public Safety subcommittees of the City Council. Regional assignments include the Renton Airport Advisory Committee, the King County Flood Control District Advisory Committee, and the King County Committee to End Homelessness Governing Board.
A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Mike Cero earned his undergraduate degree in civil engineering. Following his graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1985 to 1994. His military service included the distinction of Senior Parachutist at the Ranger School. All told, Mike Cero’s experience in the U.S. Army entailed over six years of overseas deployment, two tours of combat duty, and a U.S. Army Bronze Star. The Governor of Mississippi granted Mike Cero Honorary Mississippi Citizenship for his service with the 155th Mississippi Brigade Combat Team.
Prior to his career in public service, Mike Cero worked at the Renton, Washington, manufacturing plant of the Kenworth Truck Company, a division of PACCAR Inc. Beginning on the assembly line as a Cost Accountant, Mr. Cero worked his way up to the Corporate Purchasing Department as a Six Sigma Supplier Quality Manager.
Very active in his community, Mike Cero is an Assistant Coach on the Mercer Island Youth Football Sophmore team and serves as an at large member on PTA Legislative Group. A member of the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce, Mike Cero lives with his wife and three children on the island, which is located in the middle of Lake Washington to the east of Seattle.
