An Eisenhower Fellow and winner of numerous civic awards, Michael McMillan currently serves as License Collector for the City of St. Louis, Missouri. In this role, Michael McMillan exercises the task of collecting nearly $60 million dollars in payment in the form of business fees and taxes. To run the office more efficiently, Michael McMillan uses enhanced customer service and employee training, ensuring that businesses meet required rules and regulations. Michael McMillan’s civic education began at Saint Louis University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in African American Studies. Twice a recipient of the Father Paul C. Reinert Community Service Award, Michael McMillan also won an academic scholarship and a community service scholarship. In his first civic role, Michael McMillan served for 10 years as Alderman of the 19th Ward, one of the largest and most underserved areas of the city. Excelling in his capacity as Liaison to the Citizenry, Michael McMillan worked tirelessly to ensure that citizens received the resources and information they needed. Concurrently, Michael McMillan built a network of alliances to help initiate and support $1.25 billion in development projects, including three high schools, a medical research lab, and low-income housing. Michael McMillan has donated to more than 40 different charities, including the NAACP, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the American Council of Young Political Leaders, the Community Action Network, and the 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis. An enthusiastic spokesman for the benefits of education, Michael McMillan has endowed three scholarships in his name. He personally mentors the recipients, hiring them as interns to provide optimal opportunities for learning and professional growth. Michael McMillan stays in shape by playing racquetball, and he also enjoys traveling and reading historical nonfiction books.
