About Michael Garcia

Public policy expert and former State Representative Michael Garcia studied political science at the University of Colorado, earning a Bachelor of Arts. Michael Garcia went on to receive a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Arizona.


After completing school, Michael Garcia worked for Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz for two years, functioning as the principle liaison between the office of Congressman Ortiz and the U.S. House of Representatives and the leadership staff.


In 2000, Michael Garcia was elected to serve as Colorado’s State Representative in the Colorado House of Representatives, representing House District 42. Michael Garcia served this community for four consecutive terms. During his tenure as State Representative, Michael Garcia focused on health care reform, fiscal responsibility and accountability, veterans affairs, state procurement, and more. Michael Garcia also belonged to the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Task Force on Criminal Justice, and the Council of State Governments-West Executive Committee.


Concurrent to his work as a State Representative, Michael Garcia served as a Coordinator for Youth Council for Public Policy from 2004 to 2007. In this position, Michael Garcia coordinated a nonpartisan program to educate young people about the democratic process as a tool for positive social change.


During his final year in the Colorado House of Representatives, Michael Garcia worked as a Consultant for Progressives for Immigration Reform, where he helped get the newly formed non-profit organization off the ground by serving as the chief organizer.


Michael Garcia has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. In 2007, Michael Garcia was selected as Aurora Civitan’s Man of the Year, and the Association of Retarded Citizens of Pikes Peak (ARC) presented him with the Joe Schippicasse “Do the Right Thing” Award.
