About Michael Elterman
A dedicated forensic psychologist with extensive knowledge of the Canadian court system, Dr. Michael Elterman dedicated 20 years of professional service to the British Columbia family court system. As Consulting Psychologist to the Ministry of Attorney General in British Columbia from 1984 to 2004, Dr. Elterman provided assessments and testimony related to such areas as custody, access, and parental capacity cases. From 1992 to 2003, Dr. Michael Elterman also performed child protection and parenting assessments for the Family Court Centre.
In addition to his special faculty for navigating the complicated and often emotionally charged proceedings of family court, Dr. Michael Elterman also demonstrates a high degree of skill in the area of general clinical psychology. From 1981 to 1988, Dr. Elterman excelled as Senior Psychologist for the Vancouver Health Department and subsequently worked as Head of the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia University Hospital, Shaughnessy site, in Vancouver until its closure in 1993.
During his career, Dr. Michael Elterman performed additional forensic work for the Parole Board of Canada, the Royal Ottawa Hospital (now part of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group), and Kingston Penitentiary. Dr. Michael Elterman has completed extensive education and training in the field of psychology and currently holds a Master of Psychology from the University of Ottawa and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Queen’s University.
Additional training included a fellowship in behavioral medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine and a program of business study at Simon Fraser University, where Dr. Michael Elterman earned an MBA. Dr. Michael Elterman, a registered psychologist in British Columbia and Alberta, has operated his private practice in Vancouver since 1982. To contribute to his field, Dr. Michael Elterman stays active in several professional organizations, including the Canadian Psychological Association and the College of Psychologists of British Columbia, with which he serves as Chairman of the Board.
