Michael Clauser served as the National Security Legislative Assistant in the Washington, D.C. office of a prominent U.S. Representative. He supported the Congressman's work on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Committee on Armed Services. Michael Clauser researched policy in areas such as defense, foreign affairs, science and technology, NASA, civil-religious matters, military construction, and homeland security. He offered legislative recommendations. Before joining the staff on Capitol Hill, Michael Clauser worked at the Pentagon as a Presidential Appointee in the Administration of George W. Bush. Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Michael Clauser achieved the rank of Eagle Scout from Boy Scout Troop 191, and graduated from Saucon Valley High School. He majored in philosophy and religious studies at the Pennsylvania State University, where he obtained dual Bachelor’s degrees after only three years of study, graduating in 2004. He minored in classics and international studies and studied in Athens, Greece for a semester. Later, Michael Clauser earned a Master’s degree in European Studies from the University of Exeter in England as part of its Centre for European Studies’ dual degree program. Through that program he obtained a second Master’s in International Relations at the Uniwersytet Ekonomiczny w Poznaniu (Poznań University of Economics) in Poland. Michael Clauser took on further graduate studies at the U.S. Naval War College based in Newport, Rhode Island. Michael Clauser has published articles on topics relating to national security in the Political Studies Review, the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, and Small Wars Journal. The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) named Michael Clauser a Next Generation National Security Leader, and the Project on Nuclear Issues at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) selected him for their 2011 Nuclear Scholar Initiative.
